FAQ

How long will we meet?
This is a great question, but there is not a clear-cut answer to this.

First, standard counseling sessions last 45-50 minutes in length. It’s usually best for sessions to happen on a weekly basis and most clients meet with me for 4-8 months, depending on their goals, history, and so many other factors. As clients achieve their goals, the frequency of meetings will usually decrease to bi-weekly, then monthly until they no longer want/need to meet with me.

But that’s not the same for all clients. This is really up to you. I don’t require any commitment to a certain number of sessions because this is your decision. Because of that, you get to decide how long you want to continue counseling. I do recommend discussing your choices to continue or stop therapy with me so that we can ensure that our work is wrapped up well!
I’ve never been to counseling - what should I expect?
Your first session will be what’s referred to as an “intake session.” During this time, we’ll review my paperwork and policies. After that, we’ll walk through a detailed history of your family life, work/school related stress, mental health history, and more. Then, we will explore your goals for therapy. If you’re not clear on what you want to gain in counseling, I’ll help you brainstorm based on the stresses and issues you share with me.

Once we have some goals in place, we’ll dive into the process of gaining insight, learning and applying new tools, and creating change!
What is the cost?
My fee for a 45-50 minute session is $155. I accept credit/debit, cash, check, and HSA payments. If you are interested in therapy but cannot afford this rate, ask me about my Reduced Rate options (I reserve a limited number of income-based sliding scale and student rate spots to help clients with limited income).
Do you accept insurance?
In short, no, I do not directly bill insurance.

Insurance can be incredibly helpful when it comes to affording mental health care. I do encourage my clients to consider all of the possible implications of utilizing insurance - such as receiving an official Mental Health Diagnosis, issues that arise if you do not have an official diagnosis, and the fact that insurance can dictate the number of sessions and which therapists you can work with.

Once my clients understand all of these implications, I can provide a statement for clients to receive reimbursement for out-of-network therapy services.*

*Reimbursement will vary depending on your insurance carrier and benefits offered. I do not contact insurance carriers on clients’ behalf.

Whenever you're ready to talk, I'm here to listen.

Finding a counselor who you trust and feel safe exploring difficult, uncomfortable, and personal issues with is important. While most of my clients would tell you that it’s easy to feel a connection with me from the start of the first session, I want to help establish whether this is a good fit. That’s why I offer free 15-minute consultation calls for potential clients.
